Gurkha FC’s Historic 2024 ASFA Season: A Journey of Resilience and Rise to the Premiership
Since its inception in 2014, Gurkha FC has proudly represented the Nepalese community in Auckland, New Zealand. A not-for-profit football club with its own identity, Gurkha FC has grown from humble beginnings to become a formidable name in Auckland’s grassroots football scene. Competing in the Auckland Sunday Football Association (ASFA) since 2019, the club has been steadily building its legacy from its home ground at Valonia Reserve in New Windsor.
The 2024 season marked a significant milestone in Gurkha FC’s journey — one that will be etched in the club’s history as a year of breakthrough achievements and inspiring performances.
Championship Campaign: A Season to Remember
Playing in the ASFA Championship division, Gurkha FC delivered an outstanding campaign in 2024, finishing as runners-up — their highest-ever placing in the league to date. This success was a testament to the team’s growth, discipline, and relentless pursuit of excellence over the years.
From determined displays on the pitch to a renewed sense of unity and purpose off it, every member of the club — from players and coaches to volunteers and supporters — played a vital role in this historic run.
Premier Plate Finalists: A Battle at the Top
Adding to their impressive league form, Gurkha FC also reached the final of the Premier Plate — one of ASFA’s knockout competitions. Facing off against Premiership side AUT FC in the final, Gurkha FC fought valiantly in a tightly contested match, ultimately falling short by a narrow 1-0 margin.
Although the result was not in their favour, the performance against a top-flight opponent showcased Gurkha FC’s calibre and potential to compete at the highest level.
From Division 2 (4th tier) to the Premiership: The Climb Complete
What began in Division 2 has now culminated in the club’s promotion to the ASFA Premiership for the 2025 season — a remarkable ascent that speaks volumes about the club’s dedication and resilience over the years.
