About Us

Gurkha Football Club was proudly founded by a group of passionate and aspiring footballers from across Nepal who migrated to Aotearoa New Zealand, primarily in pursuit of higher education and employment opportunities. What began as a casual gathering of friends looking to unwind after their busy schedules gradually transformed into a vibrant community brought together by a shared love for football.

As the game gained momentum and the network of players grew, so did the desire to establish a collective identity. The name Gurkha was chosen with deep pride, symbolising courage, unity, and the rich heritage of the Nepali people. With this, Gurkha FC was officially born — not only to foster sporting excellence but also to represent the cultural values and communal spirit of the Nepali diaspora in New Zealand.

Today, Gurkha FC operates as a registered non-profit organisation and a recognised charity, competing in the Auckland Sunday Football League and hosting community-driven events such as the Everest Cup. Through football, we strive to inspire connection, promote wellbeing, and celebrate the resilience and passion of our people.
